To look after a person after long treatment is very important. A person can recover very quickly with proper care at home. This proper care of a patient at home is called Home Nursing. It means home nursing is the care of sick person at home.A
home nurse take care of patient and follows the instructions of the doctor regarding to the condition of a person. 
 

Importance of Home Nursing

Home Nursing plays an important role in the quick recovery of a patient who is discharged from the hospital after a long treatment. A person can gain good health very soon with the help of proper care. Medicines are only remedy and will be very useful but it is necessary that all the medicines should be given to the patient
punctually. 

 Qualities of A nurse 

 


The qualities of an ideal nurse are given below :

1) Good Health - A nurse performs all the necessary duties towards the patient. Sometimes she awakes whole night to look after a patient so she must be healthy. 

2) Polite and Sympathetic -A home nurse should be soft spoken and polite. She should have sympathy for the patient. She should treat the patient with smiling face. Her smile can give happiness and encourage a patient to feel better. 
  



3) Keen Observer - A nurse should be good observer so that she may notice the changes occur in the condition of a patient. This quality helps her to provide current and exact information to the doctor. 

4) Good Memory - A nurse should have strong and sharp memory. Good memory always helps in doing all the work for the patient at the right time. She can give medicines without any delay, she can remember the instructions of the doctor and follows easily. 

5) Knowledge of Cleanliness & Hygiene - A home nurse can perform her duties in a better way if she has complete knowledge of health care and hygiene. She can keep the patient clean if she knows the method of sponge bath, patient's bed organisation and sterilization of the utensils etc. 

6) Ideal Cook - A home nurse should be expert in cooking. She should have the knowledge of different nutrients and their benefits. A nurse who is ideal cook can prepare the nutritious and delicious food for the patient. 

7) Economical -  A home nurse should use everything economically. She doesn't have a habit of wasting anything or use anything more than required. She can save money also if she is economical. 

8) Sincere - A home nurse should be very sincere towards her duties. She should serve the patient by heart and sincerely. Proper care provided by a nurse can improve the condition of a patient very quickly.  




Functions & Duties      of a home nurse 

Some important duties or functions of a home nurse are as follows –

1) To give medicines to the patient punctually. 

2) To prepare fever chart if needed. 

3) To examine pulse rate and heart beat of the patient regularly and note down carefully. 

4) To cook food for the patient as directed by the doctor. 

5) Inform the doctor about the current condition of the patient time to time. 

6) To make the patient happy for quick recovery. 

7) To deal with the patient politely and in sympathetic way. 

8) To keep the patient in calm and quiet surroundings. 

9) Avoid any type of noise & crowd near the room of the patient. 

10) To keep the bed of the patient clean, to change the bed sheet and pillow covers regularly. 

11) A home nurse shouldn't allow anyone to sit on patient's bed. 

12) To give sponge bath, cold and warm fomentation to thepatient time to time. 

13) To clean mouth, tongue and teeth of the patient if the person is unable to do that. 

14) Arrange washed and ironed wearing clothes for the patient. 

15) To keep herself alert to look after the patient. 

16) She shouldn't leave the patient alone even during a sleep. 

17) Proper sanitary arrangement of the patient's room, utensils and other patient's requirements of excretion, coughing etc. 

18) Proper arrangement of food and rest or sleep. 

19) To spend some time with the patient, talk to him also as the patient does not feel  loneliness. 

20) Do not give any bad news to the patient. Avoid whispering in front of the patient. 

A person who is ill for a long time or injured badly can recover very quickly with proper care and regular treatment. A home nurse can give a new life to the patient by performing her duties sincerely.
