LINE, LINE SEGMENT & RAY

-: GEOMETRY :-

 

Geometry is a branch of Mathematics that deals with points, lines ,plains etc. which can be used for the measurement on Earth .

The word Geometry is derived from two words :-  

 1- "Geo"   means Earth

2- "Metron"  means measurement.

POINTS:-

         A point is an exact location which can be represented by a dot. It can be named by the capital letters of English alphabets  like –

Point  "A "  , Point " B " ,  Point " M " ,  Point  " Q "  etc.

A line or curve  can be drawn when we join points .

LINE :-

     A line is an endless straight path that extends in both directions.

     It has length but don't have breadth or thickness. It does not has any fixed length.

     It has no end point.

     It has infinite number of points. 

     It can be named by any two points on it like  line  AB ,   line PQ   ,  line  MN   etc

Line AB

RAY :-

     A ray is a part of a line that extends in one direction only.

      It is a part of a line with  one end point.

     It has length but don't have breadth or thickness. It does not has any fixed length.

     It has one end point.

     It has infinite number of points. 

     It can be named by it's one end point and any other  point on it like  ray AB,  ray PQ  ,  ray  MN   etc

LINE SEGMENT :-

      A line segment  is a part of a line that does not  extend in any direction .

      It is a part of a line or ray with  two end points.

     It has length but don't have breadth or thickness.  has a fixed length.

     It has two end points.

     It has infinite number of points. 

     It can be named by it's two end points only  like  line segment  " AB",    line segment  " PQ " ,    

     line   segment  " MN "    etc
